MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT
AQUABIOTEC is specialized in the delivery of sustainable turnkey wastewater treatment stations for municipalities in the range between 2.500 and 50.000 connected inhabitants. The biological treatment of the wastewater is carried out using highly efficient and innovative biofiltration technology. Today, there are over 1,000 technological biofiltration references in Europe with over 30 years of successful operating experience.
AQUABIOTEC wastewater treatment stations are equipped with modular innovative biofilters and are particularly suitable for:
- Smal to medium sized municipalities 500 to 10.000 inhabitants with corresponding hydraulic fluctuations in the inflow (day/night)
- Tourist areas with seasonal high fluctuations in load (summer-/winter-season)
- Wastewater treatment plants that are designed for a future load but only have low load at the beginning of operation, as the sewer network will only be completed in subsequent years
- Wastewater treatment plants for which only limited space is available
- Wastewater treatment plants in cold and hot climate zones

DRINKING WATER TREATMENT
Ammonia removal
Ammonia removal in drinking water via reaction with chlorine is possible when the amount of chlorine dosed rises above the critical point. However, disinfection by-products (organo-chlorines, THM etc.) often appear under these conditions and their presence is unwanted. Therefore, this technique only applies when the water contains low amounts of precursors.
Ion exchange: clinoptilolite (natural zeolite) has occasionally been suggested for removing NH4 but is expensive to use.
Removal of Nitrates
Nitrates in drinking water can be removed via either physical-chemical or biological methods. Reverse osmosis, electrodialysis and ion exchange are the processes that can be used to remove nitrates under special conditions but are expensive to use.
