Efficient and space-saving water treatment

The AQUABIOflux® represents a Biological Aerated Filter (BAF) for the biological treatment of water and wastewater where bacteria are attached to a specific single layer material.  This material called biolite is based on expanded clay having a density greater than 1.2 and provides a high degree of roughness as well as an extensive specific surface area. AQUABIOflux® is like the known BIOFOR® process developed by Degrémont/SUES in the years 1980. There are today more than 1.000 municipal and industrial reference stations with more than 30 years of successful operation experiences

Air and water are distributed from bottom to top. The filter includes biological treatment and filtration of suspended solids at same time and do not need a secondary clarifier.

Regular washes are used to eliminate any sludge that has accumulated in the material through bacterial proliferation and the retention of suspended solids. These air and water backwashes are automatically controlled and initiated either by a maximum head loss or by a preset maximum cycle duration. Wash water is collected in a tank before being treated and recycled.

The design of the AQUABIOflux® is made in accordance with European Standard EN 12255-7 as well as related German dimensioning regulations ATV/DVGW.

Developed at the start of the 80’s for use in urban wastewater secondary purification, different variants of AQUABIOflux® is available for use in a range of functions.

The AQUABIOflux® exists in different versions:

AQUABIOflux®-C               Carbon removal (BOD + COD removal)

AQUABIOflux®-N              Nitrification (NH₄-removal)

AQUABIOflux®- C+N        Carbon removal +Nitrification (BOD, COD + NH₄ removal)

AQUABIOflux®- DN           Denitrification (Nitrate removal NO₃)
